Hailuogou Modern Glacier Landscape

This landscape consists of the Hailuogou Glacier in Luding County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is a typical marine glacier. It is at the lowest elevation of the glaciers at similar latitudes in China. Its lowest point is 2,850 m above sea level, and it is the only surviving low elevation glacier in the world. This glacier is 14.7 km long, and its tongue extends 6 km into the virgin forest. As a result of the glacier’s movement, many glacial features have been created, such as glacial mushroom rocks, glacial terraces, glacial grooves, glacial arches, glacial pearl lakes, glacial crystal palaces, and other ice features in the form of a human or a beast. The Hailuogou glacier contains a large icefall that is more than 1,000 m wide and has a drop of 1,080 m. It starts from Gongga Mountain at an elevation of 7,556 m.
