Abstract
Systems thinking and systems approach were developed a lot from the middle of twentieth century in Western countries. But many authors from both West and East also pay a lot of attention on the ancient systems thinking in Orient. This chapter introduces the origin of Oriental systems thinking including Yin-Yang, eight trigrams, five elements, great learning, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, which traced back from long history in China mainly and also partially in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, etc.
From the end of 1980s to the start of 1990s in China and Japan, there emerged some modern Oriental systems thinking and approaches, such as Shinayakana system approach (1987), Meta-synthesis System approach (1990), Spiral System methodology (1992), WSR system approach (1995), etc.
