Illustrated Flora of Bambusoideae in China

Abstract

Shrubby or scrambling bamboos. Rhizomes sympodium. Culms unicaespitose, proximally erect, distally pendulous, or whole individual scarmbling; internodes terete, culm walls thin; sheath scars slightly prominent, node flat or slightly prominent. Bud 1, adnate to culm. Branches many per node, dominant branches absent or present. Culm leaves tardily deciduous, much shorter than internodes; ligules short; auricles conspicuous; oral setae radiate; blades lanceolate, reflexed, long, readily deciduous. Foliage leaves several per branchlet; auricles usually conspicuous, oral setae radiate; ligules truncate, margins fimbriate; blades medium-sized, transverse veins inconspicuous. Inflorescence paniculate on top of leafy flowering branches, pedicels pubescent; florets several per spikelet, loosely arranged, terminal florets sterile; rachilla internodes disarticulated; glumes 2; lemma 7- to 9-veined; palea equal to or longer than lemma, 2-keeled, pubescent on upper part of keels; lodicules 3, margins ciliate; stamens 3; filaments free; styles 2, base combined, stigmas 2, plumose. Caryopses glabrous. New shoots May. Flowering and fruiting February to July.
