Abstract
According to the hardiness zoning map of Chinese plants (Bao ZY (2004) Trees & shrubs: illustrated A-Z of over 8500 plants (Chinese edition). China Forestry Publishing House, Beijing), we compiled the hardiness zoning map of Bambusoideae in China (Ma LS, Shi JY, Yi TP, Yang HQ, Yang L (2011) The cold hardiness location of Bambusoideae in China. Forest Res 24(5):627–633). It demonstrates the minimum winter temperatures in each zone that bamboos can adapt to. Different colors represent different temperature ranges. The temperature range refers to the average minimum temperature in January in each zone. For example, Zone 7 represents warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate zone, and Zone 11 is the tropical humid monsoon climate zone. The distribution of bamboos is as shown in the map, and the temperature range for each zone is 4–6 °C. Zone 12 is the lowest latitude region for the bamboos, with the highest temperature, and Zone 11 is the second lowest latitude location, with a temperature between 10 °C and 16 °C.
