Abstract
Shrubby bamboos. Rhizomes sympodium, culm-necks short. Clumps dense, lower part of culms erect, apex drooping or semi-scrambling; internodes terete, hairy or glabrous, white powdery or not, solid; sheath-nodes prominent; culm-nodes slightly prominent. Branch solitary, as thick as the culm. Culm-sheaths leathery, persistent; auricles developed, oral setae present; ligules short; blades erect or reflexed. Leaves a few for each branchlet; auricles conspicuous; blades large, nearly leathery, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, transverse veins conspicuous. Flowering branches lateral or terminate; pseudospikelets several, clustered on each node, subtended by bracts; prophyll 2-keeled; bracts several, buds present in the axilla; florets 5–9 for each pseudospikelet, the uppermost sterile; rachilla disarticulated; glumes generally 2; lemma nearly leathery; palea of the first floret nearly leathery, a little longer than lemma, palea of other florets membranous, shorter than lemma; lodicules 3, glabrous; stamens 6, filaments free; ovary glabrous, style 1, extremely short, stigmas 3, plumose. New shoots August to September.
