Definition
High-performance ship is a general name of a ship with a significant advantage over a conventional draining-type ship to achieve high speed, good navigability, and economical efficiency.

Development History
High-performance ships are completely or partially out of the water during high-speed navigation, to reduce water resistance, especially wave resistance, and greatly reduce the swaying of the hull caused by waves, which can effectively improve the ship’s speed and wave resistance. When the ship is at high speed, the buoyancy of the ship will not be used as the main factor to support the weight of the ship (Zhao and Xie 2009).
A series of new variations of high-performance ships have been developed in the last half century, including improved planing craft from the 1940s, hydrofoils from the 1950s, air-cushion vehicles and surface effect ships from the 1960s, small water...
