Historic Evolution of Surface Warships
From ancient times, ships have been extremely important transportation vehicles and military weapons. During the Stone Age, ancient humans waded through canoes and rafts to carry out fishing and hunting. With the development of technology, the ancient humans created sails and oars to control navigation of ships, and wooden sailing warships began to dominate the sea from then on. Since the modern industrial revolution, especially after the application of welding technology and steel materials, the performance of ships has been greatly enhanced (Marshall 1995; Gibbons 2001).
