Definition

Field Development is defined as the process by which an offshore deposit of hydrocarbon fluids is identified and developed through a structured process. While the process varies in detail between different parts of the world (influenced by differences in government processes, the nature of the hydrocarbons and the nature of the marine environment, including water depth), many of the processes are very similar while being named each with a plethora of inconsistent acronyms. Where examples are given herein, they are intended to be illustrative and not infer any preference, advantage, or disadvantage over alternates.
