Abstract
Epidemiology is the study of distribution and determinants of health-related events (diseases) in populations as well as evaluating the impact of interventions on health in a population. A number of different study methods can be used, including case-control, cohort and RCTs. Clear definitions regarding the subject group being studied must be applied. Studies looking at rural communities pose their own challenges. Most study tools are made for developed English speaking subjects, and therefore one has to be aware of local sentiments, language and mindsets when implementing a study. There remains an urgent need to invest resources to carry out properly planned epidemiological studies in the villages.
