Gaṅgeśa Upādhyāya was the famous founder of Navya-Nyāya system of Indian philosophy belonging most probably to the late thirteenth century.

Introduction

Gaṅgeśa Upādhyāya was a famous Indian philosopher belonging most probably to the late thirteenth century from the kingdom of Mithila, now in Bihar. He was the founder of the Navya-Nyāya system of Indian philosophy. It developed out of the old school of Nyāya as its basis, but it was distinct from the old system mainly by virtue of the fact that it devised a highly technical language for the discussion of philosophical problems.
