Definition

Śrīvaiṣṇava is a sect of southern Vaiṣṇavism founded by Rāmānujācārya (1017–1137 C.E.). Socioreligious cult of Rāmānujācārya’s Viśiṣṭādvaita philosophy (qualified monism) is known as Śrīvaiṣṇava cult or Śrīvaiṣṇavism, the religious community that worships Viṣṇu (also called Nārāyaṇa) as the Supreme Lord, in conjunction with His consort Śrī (also called Lakṣmī) [1].

Nāthamuni, Yāmunācārya, and Rāmānujācārya were principal exponents of theological philosophy of Śrīvaiṣṇavism. Major credit goes to Rāmānujācārya for literary and social contribution of religious as well as philosophical development of this cult.

Literature: Philosophical tenets are based on Vedas, Upaniṣads, Rāmāyaṇa, Mahābhārata, Purāṇas, Paῆcarātra āgamas, and the hymns of Ᾱḷvārs.
