Definitions
Lipid droplet (oil body, lipid body, oleosome) – cellular organelle that stores mainly neutral lipids. It is usually composed of a protein-rich single layer phospholipid membrane which surrounds a central hydrophobic core of neutral lipids, mainly triacylglycerol.
Rice bran – a byproduct of the rice milling process, consisting mostly of the hard outer layers (aleurone and pericarp) of the rice grain.
Endosperm – is a seed tissue produced by most flowering plants during fertilization. It surrounds the developing embryo and provides nutrition in the form of starch, oils, or protein.
Starch – is a polysaccharide composed of multiple glucose units joined by glucosidic bonds. Starch is a common energy store in photosynthetic cells.
