Definition

Galactolipids – a lipid composed of glycerol, two fatty acids attached to the sn-1 and sn-2 position of this glycerol, and at least one galactose head group attached to the sn-3 position via an ether bond.

Glycerophospholipid – a lipid composed of glycerol, two fatty acids attached to the sn-1 and sn-2 position of this glycerol, and a head group attached to the sn-3 position via a phosphate.

Sterol – subgroup of steroids with a hydroxyl group at the 3-position of the A-ring.

Sphingolipid – lipid containing a long-chain base linked via an amide group to a fatty acid and optionally with a head group attached to the terminal hydroxyl group of the long-chain base.
