Overview
The interest toward the development and implementation of active control technology was prompted by the new and sometimes contradictory requirements imposed on the design of the new generation of the flight vehicle that mandated increasing structural flexibilities, high maneuverability, and at the same time, the ability to operate safely in severe environmental conditions. Designing reentry space vehicles and high-speed aircraft requires special attention to the nonlinear thermoelastic and aerodynamic instability of their structural components. The aerodynamic heating effects are usually estimated from the adiabatic wall temperature due to high-speed airstreams.
