Abstract

Migraine is a very common disorder affecting millions of people globally, with significant personal and societal impact. Recognizing this disorder and the different ways in which it can present is crucial to treating patients appropriately and reducing the burden of the disease.

This chapter reviews migraine, its subtypes, and their presentations. The discussion encompasses diagnosis of migraine with and without aura, basilar-type migraine, hemiplegic migraine (both the inherited and sporadic forms), retinal migraine, and chronic migraine. Various presentations and complications are described, as well as what are believed to be childhood precursors to migraine.
