Zusammenfassung
Zur Ordnung Anseriformes zählt man gemäß der hier verwendeten Systematik drei Familien, wobei innerhalb der Familie Anseranatidae die Spaltfußgans (Anseranas semipalmata) die einzige Spezies darstellt, und auch den Wehrvögeln (Anhimidae) nur 3 Arten zugeordnet werden (del Hoyo et al. 1992; del Hoyo und Collar 2014). Die weitaus größte Gruppe sind somit die eigentlichen Entenvögel (Anatidae), zu denen man die Enten, Gänse und auch Schwäne zählt. Der zuletzt genannten Familie gehören 52 Gattungen an, die sich in 165 Arten und 238 Unterarten aufteilen (del Hoyo und Collar 2014). Somit zählen die Gänsevögel mit zu den artenreichsten Ordnungen innerhalb der Klasse der Vögel, die gleichzeitig zu den bedeutendsten Vögeln in den Feuchtgebieten der Erde gehören.
