Zusammenfassung
Anhand von drei Fallbeispielen (Bartgeier Gypaetus barbatus, Waldrapp Geronticus eremita, Hawaiigans Branta sandvicensis) werden die Zucht und der lange und oft verlustreiche Weg zur Wiederansiedlung der Vögel im Freiland beschrieben sowie Probleme bei der Auswilderung und Zukunftsperspektiven benannt. Ein viertes Fallbeispiel betrifft ein Projekt für den Schwalbensittich (Lathamus discolor). Es steht noch am Anfang und fokussiert sich derzeit auf die Lokalisierung mutationsfreier und artenreiner Wildvögel sowie deren Nachzucht. Ob jemals eine Auswilderung zur Debatte steht, hängt unter anderem davon ab, ob die im natürlichen Lebensraum der Sittiche übergriffigen invasiven Prädatoren (vor allem Kurzkopfgleitbeutler Petaurus breviceps) in den Griff zu bekommen sind.
