Zusammenfassung
Gestörter und nicht erholsamer Schlaf können unterschiedliche Ursachen haben und Ausdruck schwerwiegender Erkrankungen sein. Die aktuellen Klassifikationssysteme der Schlafmedizin umfassen Diagnosen aus den Bereichen der schlafbezogenen Atmungsstörungen, der Bewegungsstörungen, der Parasomnien und der Dyssomnien. Die beteiligten Fachrichtungen in der Medizin sind dementsprechend sowohl aus dem internistischen als auch dem neurologisch-psychiatrischen und psychotherapeutischen Bereich. Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über schlafmedizinische Messmethoden und physiologische Grundlagen des Schlafes. Des Weiteren werden die häufigsten Krankheitsbilder und deren Behandlung vorgestellt. Für die Behandlung nicht organischer Schlafstörungen, den sog. Insomnien gibt es neben der klassischen Therapie mit Hypnotika eine Reihe gut erprobter verhaltenstherapeutischer Maßnahmen. Abschließend gibt der Beitrag Empfehlungen zur Prävention.
