Vladimir Vasil’yevich Bolotin (*March 29, 1926, in Tambov, Soviet Union; May 28, 2008, in Moscow, Russia) was a world renown scientist with the focus to different fields of mechanics of deformable solid bodies like stability problems stochastic mechanics or multilayered structures.

Early Life

Academician Bolotin was born on March 29, 1926, in Tambov, former Soviet Union. In 1948, he graduated from Moscow Railway Engineering Institute. In 1950 he defended his PhD dissertation and in 1952 his habilitation work. Since 1953, Bolotin was associated with the Department of Strength of Materials of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, becoming its chair in 1958. The department was renamed as the Department of Dynamics and Strength of Machinery in 1969 after Bolotin organized a new specialty in 1962. Since 1980 onward, Bolotin served as Head of the Laboratory of Reliability and Operating Life of the A. A. Blagonravov Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences,...
