FormalPara BeschreibungSarkosin (Sar) ist ein Zwischenprodukt bei der Umwandlung von Cholin in Glyzin. Erhöhte Werte im Serum und Urin werden bei Sarkosinämie gefunden, eine seltene angeborene Stoffwechselstörung mit unspezifischen Symptomen. Aktuell wird geprüft, ob es in der Behandlung von Schizophrenien aufgrund der Erhöhung der Glyzinkonzentration im Gehirn mit Aktivierung der N-Methyl-D-Aspartat(NMDA)-Rezeptoren eingesetzt werden kann.
