FormalPara DefinitionGesättigte ultralangkettige Fettsäure (C24:0). Kommt vorwiegend in Sphingomyelin vor. Kleiner Bestandteil pflanzlicher Fette. Großer Bestandteil des Sekrets der vorderen Drüsen der untererdigen Formosa-Termiten (Coptotermes formosanus).
FormalPara BeschreibungLignocerinsäure, bekannt als eine der ultralangkettigen Fettsäuren (VLCFA, very long-chain fatty acids), spielte eine Rolle in der Diagnostik der peroxisomalen Erkrankungen. VLCFA werden in Peroxisomen β-oxidiert. Genetische Defekte der peroxisomalen Oxidation ultralangkettiger Fettsäuren weckten großes Interesse an der VLCFA-Analytik. VLCFA können in Plasma mittels Gaschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie (GC-MS) oder mittels Tandem-Massenspektrometrie (LC-MS) nachgewiesen werden. Lignocerinsäure spielt in der Analyse VLCFA nur noch eine untergeordnete Rolle. Eine erhöhte Plasmakonzentration von u. a. der Lignocerinsäure kann für die Diagnose des Zellweger-Syndroms wegweisend sein.
