Zusammenfassung

In der Epidemiologie werden Patienten ab dem 65. Lebensjahr als geriatrisch angesehen. Anästhesisten sind aufgrund der Bevölkerungsentwicklung vermehrt mit der perioperativen Betreuung von alten Menschen konfrontiert. Mit zunehmendem Alter nimmt sowohl die perioperative Inzidenz von schwerwiegenden kardiopulmonalen Komplikationen als auch die Letalität zu [54]. Die optimale anästhesiologische Betreuung geriatrischer Patienten erfordert daher neben dem Wissen über das geplante operative Vorgehen und die vorhandenen Begleiterkrankungen auch genaue Kenntnisse über die altersphysiologischen Veränderungen der einzelnen Organsysteme und deren Einfluss auf z. B. Pharmakodynamik und Pharmakokinetik.
