Zusammenfassung
Ansteigendes durchschnittliches Lebensalter und die Zunahme der Inzidenz des Typ-1- und Typ-2-Diabetes führen dazu, dass der Diabetes mellitus zu den am häufigsten zu behandelnden Erkrankungen im stationären Bereich gehört (Prävalenz ca. 30 %). Tatsächlich wird aber nur bei 10 % der Patienten die Nebendiagnose „Diabetes“ gestellt, deren Folgekomplikationen wiederum nur bei etwa 10 % erkannt werden, obwohl 75 % der betroffenen Patienten Folgekomplikationen aufweisen. Dies ist u. a. durch die lange Zeitspanne zwischen der Manifestation und der Diagnosestellung der Erkrankung bedingt. Ein weiteres Problem ist die nicht immer adäquate Therapie sowie die häufig fehlende Aufmerksamkeit für die Symptome. Die Aufgabe des Anästhesisten ist es, das perioperativ erhöhte Risiko von Patienten mit Diabetes durch ein geeignetes Vorgehen so zu senken, dass dies etwa dem eines Nichtdiabetikers entspricht.
