Definition
Rupes (Latin for cliff) are lobate scarps on the surface of Mercury. Rupes are formed by compressional tectonics. The largest known feature of this kind on Mercury is Discovery Rupes. Discovery Rupes is about 550 km long and stands as high as 1.5 km.
