Fly species of the family Simulidae (black flies). Eggs are deponed in thick clumps inside quickly moving small creeks. The 4–5 mm sized specimens occur in regions from West Europe until Kazakhstan. Their larval stages overwinter. The females possess a tarsal claw with a basal tooth. Their mesonotum is characterized by a silver-appearing u-shaped sign and the tibia of the hind legs appears yellowish-white along about half of its lengths. This species is known as vector of filarial worms.
