This species occurs in cysts of the kidneys, bladder, and excretory channels of pigs. The infection (mainly in tropical and subtropical regions but not in Europe) occurs by actively skin-penetrating larvae 3 or by ingestion of paratenic hosts such as earthworms or cockroaches, etc. The symptoms of disease may be severe. Treatment can be done by application of ivermectin or doramectin (both by ingestion of 0.3 mg/kg bodyweight).
