Zusammenfassung

Der Beitrag beschreibt die Geschichte des Begriffs soziale Innovation als Bestandteil einer diskontinuierlichen konzeptionellen Diskussion mit starken Bezügen zur Debatte um ein sozialtheoretisch fundiertes Verständnis sozialen Wandels und benennt einzelne Forschungsfelder, in denen der Begriff in den letzten Jahren zunehmend verwendet wird. Mit der wachsenden Bedeutung des Konzeptes in der gesellschaftlichen und politischen Debatte lässt sich eine Intensivierung der wissenschaftlichen Beschäftigung mit dem Thema feststellen. Dabei werden Konturen eines neuen übergreifenden Forschungsfeldes sichtbar.

    Mit der 2011 gestarteten Social Innovation Europe Initiative wurde eine entsprechende Schwerpunktverlagerung eingeleitet. Soziale Innovation ist inzwischen Kernelement der Europe 2020 „Strategy for smart sustainable and inclusive growth“ (European Commission 2010) sowie des europäischen Rahmenprogramms für Forschung und Innovation, Horizon 2020. Auch in der Präambel der neuen High-Tech-Strategie der Bundesregierung wird die Absicht formuliert: „Wir setzen auf einen erweiterten Innovationsbegriff, der nicht nur technologische, sondern auch soziale Innovationen umfasst, und beziehen die Gesellschaft als zentralen Akteur ein.“ (BMBF 2014, S. 4).

    Dies kommt auch in einer neuen Generation von in den europäischen Rahmenprogrammen geförderten Projekten zum Ausdruck, in deren Mittelpunkt die Entwicklung eines theoretisch fundierten Konzepts sozialer Innovation steht – so zum Beispiel die Projekte Social innovation: driving force of social innovation (SI-DRIVE) und Transformative social innovation theory (Transit) (http://ec.europa.eu/research/social-sciences/pdf/ssh-projects-fp7-5-6-social-innovation_en.pdf).
