Zusammenfassung

Der Artikel vergleicht die Herausbildung der Kultursoziologie an der Wende vom 19. zum 20. Jahrhundert mit der Entstehung der Global Studies seit den 1990er-Jahren. Heutige Globalisierungsforschung vollzieht sich sowohl in zahlreichen Einzeldisziplinen, in denen unterschiedliche Aspekte globaler Verflechtungen und politischer Reaktionen darauf fokussiert werden, als auch in dem langsam zur Disziplin heranwachsenden Feld der Global Studies. Hieraus ergeben sich Gemeinsamkeiten in den Interessen, theoretischen Grundlegungen und Methoden zwischen Kultursoziologie und Global Studies, aber auch Unterschiede, deren Gewicht von gegenwärtig laufenden Entwicklungen in beiden Fächern abhängt.
