Zusammenfassung

Vertrautheit und Fremdheit prägen gleichermaßen das Bild der USA in der deutschen Öffentlichkeit und genau das scheint es so schwierig zu machen, die USA zu verstehen: Pop Culture und Fast Food, Hollywood-Filme und Musikindustrie, in den Großstädten und auf allen Fernsehkanälen sind die USA auch in europäischen Ländern ständig präsent. Tea Party, Waffenrechte und Rassismus sind die andere Seite der Medaille, die die USA in ihren sozialen und politischen Ausprägungen sowie historischen Entwicklungslinien auf Distanz zu Europa bringen.
