Zusammenfassung
Mit dem Begriff Anämie werden sowohl erniedrigte Hämoglobin(Hb)- als auch erniedrigte Hämatokritwerte im peripheren Blut bezeichnet. Bei Frauen gilt ein Hb-Wert unter 12 g/dl und bei Männern ein Hb-Wert unter 13 g/dl als pathologisch. Milde Anämien bereiten in der Regel noch keine Symptome. Abhängig von der individuellen Konstitution und Adaption können teils auch sehr niedrige Hb-Werte gut toleriert werden, so z. B. bei Patienten mit angeborenen Störungen der Erythropoese oder bei Patienten, bei denen sich die Anämie über einen langen Zeitraum entwickelt hat. Dieses Kapitel geht auf die grundlegenden Kenntnisse bezüglich der Hämoglobinsynthese, der Stimulation der Erythropoese sowie des Abbaus der Erythrozyten und des Hämoglobins ein, um die entsprechenden Laborparameter richtig zu interpretieren und gegebenenfalls eine weiterführende Diagnostik durchführen zu können. Eine Anämie ist immer nur ein Symptom und keine Diagnose, sodass die Ursache stets abgeklärt werden muss. In eigenen Abschnitten werden die wichtigsten Ursachen für eine Anämie beschrieben.
