General Information

China is located in the east of Asia and on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean with a land area of about 9.6 million square kilometers. Since the reform and opening-up that was started in December 1978, China’s economy has developed rapidly, GDP reached 4.86 trillion (constant 2005 US$) in 2013 from 0.186 trillion (constant 2005 US$) in 1978, with an average annual growth rate of 9.77. Today, China is the world’s second largest economy. With the rapid economic growth, China’s energy consumption continuously increased, making it the world’s largest energy consumer. China’s primary energy consumption increased from 396.2 million tons oil equivalent in 1978 to 2852.4 million tons oil equivalent in 2013, with an average annual growth rate of 5.80%. Among them, coal consumption accounted for more than 65% of total primary energy consumption, and oil consumption accounted for around 20%.
