Need of (Nonrenewable and Renewable) Resources
The energy sector in Mexico experienced a major overhaul following the constitutional reform of 2013. The main sources of energy produced by Mexico are hydrocarbons; first oil, which represented 64.3 percent of primary energy production, followed by natural gas, which represented 22.7 percent. The production of renewable energies was not a priority for the country. This has changed in the past years, as Mexico has created a complete strategy for the development of a sustainable energy system and the promotion of renewable energy sources.
Mexico is one of the top ten oil producers in the world. In 2013, the oil sector accounted for 13 percent of export earnings in the country. The same year it was reported that energy production was on par with the national energy consumption, which suggested the decline in production and an increase in consumption.
