General Information on Tanzania

Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania, is a union between two states: Tanganyika and Zanzibar. The two states achieved their independencies in 1961 and 1964, respectively. The union was made in 1964 where the Union Government is vested with powers over all union matters and non-union matters concerning Tanganyika and the Revolution government of Zanzibar is vested with powers over all non-union matters concerning Zanzibar. The list of union matters is provided in the First Schedule to the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania. (One of the union matters is mineral oil resources, including oil and natural gas. See items 15 of the Schedule to the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977).
