Abstract

Gastric malignancies are a major global health problem particularly in Asia and Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, even with modern diagnostic and treatment methods, only 10% of patients are alive at 5 years (Lockhart and Canon 2010; Sugano 2008; Hall 2010). Gastric adenocarcinoma is the most common malignancy of the stomach accounting for some 90% of cases (Osawa and Yamamoto 2010; Levine 2010). Other gastric malignancies occur much less frequently and include lymphoma (<5%), stromal tumors (<2%), and malignant carcinoids (<1%) (Osawa and Yamamoto 2010; Levine 2010; Baker et al. 2010; Khandekar and Khandekar 2010). This chapter discusses the radiology and relevant clinical and pathological features of the most common gastric neoplasms.
