Handbook of Adhesion Technology

Abstract

Bonding in the field of civil engineering has a long tradition. The history of adhesive bonding began in the pre-Christian Rome with the invention of mortar. Today, modern adhesive technology is an integral part of the civil construction, thus making important economic contributions to the stabilization of existing and creation of new jobs. Due to the wide range of construction materials used such as concrete, wood, steel, and combinations of materials in the form of hybrid structures, adhesive technology as a material-independent joining technology will play a significant role.

In this chapter, adhesive bonding applications in the civil construction sector, specific requirements, and adherents are described. The execution of bonding and properties of adhesive-bonded civil constructions complete the theme.
