  • Reference work entry
Book cover Handbook of Visual Display Technology

Abstract

HDMI® technology has become ubiquitous in connecting high-definition digital devices in consumers’ living rooms. With its robust performance, broad feature support, ease of use, low cost, and wide adoption in the industry, HDMI-enabled devices now extend beyond the original consumer electronics applications to include portable, automotive, and commercial applications. The specification development history, an overview of the technology features and capabilities, its applications, and licensing requirements for HDMI-compliant products are covered in this chapter.
