Relevance
That the Community Development Resource Association (CDRA) that came into being in the dying years of the South African apartheid regime as part of a broader movement of liberation and social change is very significant. The context formed and shaped its mission and analysis. The number of organizations and leaders reached and influenced by the CDRA is truly impressive. That it chose to be a civil society organizations (CSO) rather than a profit-making enterprise testifies to its self-understanding and its appreciation of those it serves as co-workers and not merely as clients. Its 2018 decision to close its doors is not sign of failure but evidence of its ability to read its context and determine how best to carry forward in a changed environment.
