Relevance
Abraham Flexner, an American educator, is probably best known for his recommendations and efforts in the early 1900s to reform medical education. However, he also helped shape one of the first think tanks in the United States and was a highly sought and trusted advisor to would-be philanthropists of his time.
Basic Biographical Information
Abraham Flexner was born on November 13, 1866, in Louisville, Kentucky (United States), to parents who had emigrated from Germany. Graduating in 1886 from Johns Hopkins University, one of the most advanced American universities of its era, he returned to Louisville to establish an innovative college-preparatory school. In 1905–1906, he pursued graduate studies at Harvard University and the University of Berlin.
