Definitions

Water is an essential resource that permeates beyond social and economic human welfare as well as Earth’s ecological balance because water is key for its development. In this context, an integrated water resource management should not only guarantee access to water justice and development to all social groups over time to fulfill completely the human right to water but also to achieve the ecosystem’s right to a healthy environment. To accomplish these goals as well as those established by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), strong changes have been made in the governance framework at international levels to ensure a greater inclusion and social participation in the decision-making process of water allocation.
