Definitions
Smart sustainable city is an innovative city that uses information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve quality of life, the efficiency of urban operations and services and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social, environmental and cultural aspects (International Telecommunication Union 2014).
Technological innovations comprise new products and processes and significant technological changes of products and processes. An innovation has been implemented if it has been introduced to the market (product innovation) (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development 2013).
