Definition

Pastures are lands with annual and perennial shrubby vegetation which include bushes, shrubs, and some scattered trees that are used for grazing season. Pastures are one of the main sources of supplying food for domestic and wild animals. Moreover, they have many ecological functions such as the conservation of soil, water, and other environmental resources (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Furthermore, pastures are areas for grazing, and in fact their usage is very similar to agricultural lands. They have self-seeding plants that are grazed by livestock such as sheep, cattle, horses, goats, etc. The dominant plants in the pastures are forage crops. Other plants that cover pastures are legumes, non-forage crops, and sometimes shrubs. In many areas pastures are used for livestock grazing in summer (or hot) season, and this is the major source for producing meat and dairy.
