Definition

The plurality and diversity of organizations created by rural and agricultural sector agents for different purposes and at different levels makes it difficult to provide an inclusive and exclusive definition of farmer-based organizations. Therefore, in terms of definition, structure, role and function of farmer organizations, there are many similarities and overlaps with concepts such as producer organizations, farmer associations, and cooperatives. Moreover, because farmers are the building block of all previously mentioned organizations, it can even be claimed that recent concepts are examples of farmer organizations.
