Definitions

People and community engagement is a process through which affected sides influence and share control over development initiatives and the decisions and resources which affect them (Santiso 2001).

Public participation encompasses a group of procedures designed to consult, involve, and inform the public to allow those affected by a decision to have an input into that decision (Smith 2003).

Introduction

People and community engagement envisages the participation of all relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process with an interest in outcomes, bringing together the key actors and supporting and challenging all wider public to be actively engaged.
