Definitions

Native (indigenous):

Taxa (species, subspecies, etc.) whose presence in a given area occurs naturally, within its native range, and its presence is not a result of human intervention.

Endemic:

Native taxa that is restricted to a certain place (e.g., it may be endemic from a small island, a country, or even a continent).

Alien (exotic, non-native, non-indigenous):

Taxa (species, subspecies, etc.) whose presence in a given area is due to introduction, intentional, or accidental, as a result of human activity.

Invasive (environmental weed):

Subset of alien taxa that after being naturalized produces reproductive offspring, often in very large numbers, at considerable distances from parent individuals/ populations and thus have the potential to spread over a considerable area, frequently adversely affecting native biodiversity and/ or ecosystems functioning.

Weed:

Native or exotic taxa that produce reproductive offspring in areas not desired by man, impacting the ecosystem...
