Definitions

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration of the US Department of Commerce (NOAA) defined Climate Science Literacy as an understanding of human influence on climate and climate’s influence on human and society. A climate-literate person knows how to assess scientifically credible information about climate, communicates about climate and climate change in a meaningful way, and can make informed and responsible decisions regarding actions that may affect climate (NOAA 2014).

As such, individuals who are climate science literate have a basic understanding of the climate system and are aware of the essential relationship between climate and human life, and the influence of climate on human health. They can assess the validity of scientific arguments...
