Definitions

Decoupling:

The act of causing something to become separated, disconnected, or divergent. Syn- separate, disengage, dissociate.

Economic Development:

The process by which the economic well-being and quality of life of a nation, region, or local community are improved. Syn- evolution, growth, expansion.

Poverty:

The state of being extremely poor. Syn- scarcity, deficiency, shortage.

Climate Change:

A change in global or regional climate patterns from the mid-twentieth century onwards due to the use of fossil fuels causing an increase in atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide. Syn- global warming, climate crisis.

Deforestation:

The action of clearing a wide area of trees. Syn- demolish, logging.

Political Institutions:

The organizations in a government which create, enforce, and apply laws. They often mediate conflict, make governmental policy on the economy and social systems, and provide representation for the population. Syn- establishment, association.
