Definitions
“Decent Work” is an umbrella concept that combines access to full and productive employment with various qualitative dimensions of work such as rights at work, social protection, and the promotion of social dialogue. The International Labour Organization (ILO) defines decent work as one that is productive and delivers a fair income, safe working conditions and social protection for families, prospects for personal development and social integration, freedom of expression, organizing and participation, as well as equality of opportunity and of treatment for all. Since its launch by the ILO in 1999, decent work has become a universal objective and has been embraced in major human rights declarations and United Nations (UN) resolutions.
