Definition
Over the years, energy efficiency has been commonly used interchangeably with energy conservation by nonexpert groups to refer to the same meaning; however, these two terms convey different semantics (Hoexter 2010; Oikonomou et al. 2009). Energy efficiency can be defined as a technology which uses less energy to execute the same function. It can also be defined as a measurement of how much energy is utilized to perform a task (Hoexter 2010). On the other hand, energy conservation is the behavioral practice or the act of using less energy (Use of energy… 2019) or in other words, energy conservation is voluntarily opting to use technology that consumes less energy such as electricity, fuel oil, natural gas, and other nonrenewable energy sources (Parrott 2019).
