Definition of Cash Transfer (CT)
Cash transfer is a direct transfer payment of money to an eligible person under an assistance program for the poor, needy, or underprivileged (O’Sullivan and Sheffrin 2003). Cash transfers are either unconditional cash transfers or conditional cash transfers. They may be provided by organizations funded by private donors, a local or regional government (McCord 2011).
Introduction
Cash transfer (CT) is a form of social, financial or material assistance intended to help the poor to curb poverty conditions. It occurs in three forms. It can be cash given to individual households, cash grants, or cash for work and voucher programs, and cash as an alternative to in-kind transfers such as agricultural inputs or non-food-items (Farrington et al. 2005).
