Definition
Syringomatous tumor of the nipple/areola region (SAN) is a benign rare condition, which is typically observed in the dermal/subcutaneous region of the nipple area and which exhibits sweat gland differentiation (Ishikawa et al. 2015; Montgomery et al. 2014; Boecker et al. 2014). These tumors have no metastastic potential but can recur if removed incompletely (Ishikawa et al. 2015; Montgomery et al. 2014; Boecker et al. 2014).
Clinical Features
Incidence
This type of nipple tumor is very rare, accounting less than 1% of all tumors arising in the breast. Until now, 39 cases were reported in the English literature, mostly in form of case reports. Thirty seven patients were female, and two were males (Ishikawa et al. 2015; Montgomery et al. 2014; Oo and Xiao 2009; Page et al. 2009; Jones et al. 1989; Carter and Dyess 2004; Rosen 1983).
